SHAPE – Shaping Attitudes for Participatory Engagement of Seniors is an international Erasmus+ project focused on strengthening the competences of older adults and supporting their active participation in social life.
The project responds to the growing need to create educational opportunities that help seniors better understand social processes, navigate the digital world and engage constructively in their communities. Instead of focusing only on the transfer of knowledge, SHAPE emphasises the development of key competences that support responsible and informed participation in society.
The main objective of the project is to develop and implement innovative 21st-century educational tools that support mature adults in building competences necessary for responsible and constructive participation in social life.
The project introduces an educational approach based on pedagogical agility, which means designing learning processes that are flexible, responsive and adapted to the experiences and needs of participants. Learning activities are organised as cyclical processes combining experience, reflection and practical application.
Educational activities developed in the project focus on three thematic areas:
digital education,
intercultural education,
civic education.
All activities are designed around a competence framework developed in the project, which includes:
civic agency,
critical thinking and media literacy,
dialogue and cooperation in diversity,
responsibility for the consequences of actions,
lifelong learning and adaptability.
Within the project, partners will develop a guide for educators, a set of Agile Learning Frames (flexible learning structures for workshops with seniors) and a digital repository of educational resources supporting trainers and learners.
These tools will be tested during pilot educational activities with senior participants and later shared as open educational resources (OER) so that they can be used by organisations working in adult education across Europe.
Through international cooperation and practical experimentation, the SHAPE project aims to contribute to more inclusive, participatory and resilient communities in Europe.
